[REVIEW] TAMRA THE ISLAND

Set in the 17th Century, Jang Beo-jin (Seo Woo) is a young female diver on Tamra Island. She doesn’t particularly enjoy her situation and dreams of one day leaving the island. One day, to her shock, she discovers a young blond haired man laying on the beach. The young man’s name is William (Pierre Deporte) and he is a shipwrecked British citizen. Another young man named Park Kyu enters the island under the disguise of one of the many convicts sent to Tamra Island. In actuality, Park Kyu (Lim Ju-Hwan) is a budding government official known as a Seonbi. These three young people then become involved in a hilarious love triangle. This drama takes you through a lt. You find that in the midst of this bubbly yet complicated drama is political intrigue and maneuvering. Over all it lends toward a lively representation of a culture. Its done very well, as the producers manage to make you believe this is a factual tale and not just the live action version of a manwa. I enjoyed each character immensely, even though sometimes their antics surpassed the boundaries of reality. Taking into account that this is molded after a manwa all their character quirks become loveable. And you become engrossed in their life.

Tamra, the Island-p1.jpg

A big part for that is the incredibly phenomenal job done by all the cast members. Regardless of how small their role each character really stands out for their uniqueness.

Although Tamra the Island did not rate very while it was airing back in 2009 I found it to be extremely enjoyable. It was fun and light while still shining light on the lives of the female divers of Jeju island. I would definitely say its worth the watch!

[REVIEW] PROTECT THE BOSS

To commemorate the end of one my favorite kdramas of late, I’ve decided to do a review in place of an episode recap. After all finales are meant to be seen not read about! Now, if you have yet to watch Protect the Boss there is no time like the present. The series has only just finished and its definitely one of the best of this year. The story centers around No Eun Seol, a struggling ex-trouble maker. She finally lands the job of her life working as secretary to Cha Ji Heon; aka The Nations Papas boy. Sadly he is immature and totally impossible to get along with. Their struggles to get along, the shenanigans they get themselves into, and the complicated relationships that develop makes for one fun packed drama. It’s a completely unique story, with great script writing. The production team creates a rollercoaster ride of emotions that has you gripping your stomach for most of the drama. The cast too is just brilliant at delivering their lines; its believable and alive. And their ability to provide comedy through their expressions and body movements is one of a kind.

The supporting cast is very well selected- complementing the main cast perfectly and never overshadowing.

I cannot begin to count how many times this drama had me in stitches. I laughed, I cried, I cheered for the characters, and I loved them even when I hated them! Originally slated for 16 episodes it was extended to 18- giving us a couple more days to enjoy. Again if you havent watched it- DO IT ASAP!!

Episode 17: (nationwide rating 14.1)

KDRAMA WATCH OCTOBER

A Tree with Deep Roots

I’m really looking forward to this drama. Based on Lee Jeong-myeong’s novel “Deep-rooted Tree”. Work that highlights the serial killings during the 7 days before the announcement of the Korean script. A series of murder occurred during the reign of King Sejong. As Kang Chae Yoon who is investigating these cases gets closer to the root of the truth, he finds himself embroiled in a massive conspiracy behind the serial killings which involves a group of genius who are willing to risked their lives towards their cause/goals and secret powers who will interfere with the course of his investigations. The plot itself is completely unique- I’m not sure something like this has been done before. And its very fitting it start in October….maybe they will have a totally scary scene on Halloween! Its set to start on the 5th taking over the place of Protect the Boss.

Mr. Idol

Entertainment mogul Sa Hee-Moon (Kim Su-Ro) runs top talent agency “Star Music.” Oh Goo-Joo (Park Ye-Jin) is a former music producer who quit the business after the death of one of her clients. One day, Oh Goo-Joo runs into Lee Yoo-Jin (Ji Hyun-Woo). Lee Yoo-Jin was a former client of “Star Music” but was kicked out after years of training. Goo-Joo believes Yoo-Jin has star potential and helps produce new idol band “Mr. Children” featuring Yoo-Jin on lead vocals. As the group grows in popularity, Sa Hee-Moon from “Star Music” works to sabotage the groups chances for success … A simple enough plot but with a killer cast I ‘d dub this much anticipated.

KPOP PLAYLIST SEPTEMBER

Definitely a month full of energy! And the same can be said for my playlist. Nary a song that isn’t pumping with energy and makes me want to dance.

Infinite- Paradise

Coming straight out of their success from be Mine these boys do it again! They put out a track that has me totally hooked and I’m loving it. I admit to being biased but their talent is completely evident with every bit of growth they demonstrate.

Super Junior A-Cha

No one kill me please- but I was not a total fan of Mr. Simple. Though admittedly it was catchy it did not do it for me. A Cha however is completely different. The hook is super fun and and the beat is cool as heel. Once again Super Junior kicks some KPop butt! I only wish they didn’t say spider as I’m arachnophobia

Fat Cat- Indifferent Love

I LOVE this song. Its synthed to death but its done in such a unique way with such cool sounds that it works. It really makes move to the beat- a great attribute for a dance track.

Girl’s Day- Don’t Let Your Eyes Wander

D

Yes I know misleading title for this single. But boy is it fun. I just want to jump along to the beat and sing along to the chorus. Aaaaah so addictive!!! And the lyrics are so funny at times it makes me giggle as I sing.

JYJ- Get Out

Ok whoever these girls JYJ keeps singing about need to back off before I kill them. Although if they were happy maybe they wouldn’t be making such amazing song about their tragedies. Anyways, ignore my jealous ramblings and listen to this song! ITS IS SO DAMN GOOD IT HURTS!!!!!!

B1A4- Fooool
B1A4- Beautiful Target

B1A4 you guys are just too cute. I love the new concept and though I am looking forward to your manly phase I am enjoying the under aged eye candy you all present. It also doesn’t hurt that both of the above tracks are so catchy I don’t think I can stop singing them. I mean I sing Fooool on the train to work and people think I’m crazy or something.

KARA- Step

I have never been a super big fan of KARA by any means but having liked several of their songs I was looking forward to their comeback. And boy was I blown away. Not that they changed their looks or musical style. But that the power of the track had me instantly hooked! And the choreography is totally fun too.

Maybee- Goodbye Valentine

Ok this track isn’t totally fun but  just cant see it as a ballad either. The entire song is just so vibrant it exudes energy and thus I am completely loving it!

Brown Byed Girls- Sixth Sense

This was one heck of a comeback. And one heck of a comeback track. It isn’t original by any means but BEG just owns it! I like this song down to the rap break- as a matter of fact I love it because of the rap!
